A New School Year!

It is so hard to believe that summer vacation is over and a new school year is upon us again, but I'm so ready for it!  I have a lot of new ideas and programs that I want to implement in the Elementary Library this year and I can't wait for the students to get back to school so that I can share those ideas with them.

To kick the year off, we will be doing a Reading Challenge for the months of September and October called "Read S'More Books!"  I'm challenging our elementary students to read a total of 500 books in two months.  Now, if everyone participates, it won't take long to reach that goal.  Think you're ready to join the challenge?  I've got the reading logs all set and ready to go on Wednesday so you can start reading away! :-)

For students in Grades 4-5, you have the unique opportunity of participating in the WEMTA Battle of the Books Program!  I really want to have a variety of teams battling it out this year for their shot at representing Kickapoo Elementary at the state level in February 2011 online when they participate in the state competition.  If you're interested in participating, please see me in the first couple weeks of school.

Finally, I will be starting an Elementary Bookworms Book Club this year for students in Grades 4-5.  I have had a lot of success with my Middle School Book Club and I'm hoping that success travels to the elementary level where I can't wait to start reading and chatting about books with those of you interested students!

Welcome Back!  I can't wait to see all of you again and hear about all the exciting things you did over the summer!
